West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has held Union Home Minister Amit Shah responsible for the tragic incident at the 'Maharashtra Bhusan' event in Kharghar, Raigad district, on Sunday. At least 11 people died due to sunstroke, and over 20 others were undergoing treatment.
The event was attended by several high-profile individuals, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his deputy Devendra Fadnavis. Amit Shah conferred the award to social reformer Appasaheb Dharmadhikari, presenting him with various honors and a cheque of Rs 25 lakh.
The Chief Minister's Office confirmed the deaths, and several politicians, including former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, his son Aaditya Thackeray, and NCP leader Ajit Pawar, visited the MGM Kamothe Hospital to assess the situation. Uddhav Thackeray expressed concern and interacted with the patients undergoing treatment, acknowledging that the event was not planned properly and questioning who would investigate the incident.
It should be noted that while Mamata Banerjee held Amit Shah responsible for the deaths or accused him of planning to fight in the name of caste and religion, there is no evidence to support these allegations.
